Interview on Campus
On-campus interviews for MBA students take place at the W. P. Carey MBA Career Management Center. Each year, approximately 90 percent of our full-time students and several students from our working professionals programs take part in on-campus recruiting. Our staff collaborates closely with companies to ensure success in recruiting for career and summer internship positions.
By following these steps, your company can select and interview the best candidates in the most efficient and economical manner.
Step 1 – Scheduling Your On-Campus Interviews
Please contact us to schedule your interview dates, keeping the following information in mind:
Position Title and Description
Firms that provide detailed information about their available positions, along with information about the company and division, consistently receive an enthusiastic response from students.
Type of Schedule
The W. P. Carey MBA Career Management Center employs the pre-select method of choosing candidates, which means that you will select interviewees based on a resume referral or resume collection.
Length of Interviews
Generally, firms choose to conduct 30-minute or 45-minute interviews; however, our staff will customize timeframes to meet your specific needs.
Step 2 – Populating Your Schedule: Resume Collections and Candidate Lists
We recommend that you post a position with us at least one month before your interview date, which will allow sufficient time for our staff to publicize your opportunity, collect resumes and send them to you. In addition, we suggest that you review our resume books to identify interview candidates proactively.
Two weeks before your visit, we ask that you select interview candidates and notify us. We will invite candidates for you and arrange your interview schedule.
Step 3 – Visiting Campus
A few days before your interview date, our office will e-mail your final schedule and include directions to our career center along with your parking reservation and other logistical information.
Typically, interviews begin at 8:30 a.m. On the first day of interviews, we suggest you arrive about 20 minutes before your first interview and acclimate yourself to the surroundings. Upon your arrival, we will provide an information packet with your schedule and resumes.
We will provide coffee and snacks throughout the day and look forward to being your host for lunch.
Helpful tip: Students appreciate hearing from a company soon after their first interview, even if they have not progressed to the next interview round. Let them know at the interview your timeframe for following up. Your consideration for the candidate will enhance your firm’s reputation with the student body.
Step 4 – Final Round Interviews, Follow Up and Feedback
Since companies have varying timetables for second or final round interviews, we ask that you keep students apprised of their status throughout your hiring process. Students greatly appreciate open communication, regardless of the outcome of their candidacy. At the end of your interview day, please complete our recruiter survey. Your feedback helps us to provide you with excellent customer service.
Step 5 – The Offer
Accepting an offer is the culmination of a student’s time at the W. P. Carey School of Business. This important decision requires sufficient contemplation to ensure that it is right for both the student and your firm. Our recruiting policies provide more information regarding offers.
