Accounting Career Awareness Program
at Arizona State University
The Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) will host the city’s fifth annual Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) on June 24 – 28, 2012 at Arizona State University.
This program is for all sophomore, junior or senior high school students who are interested in learning about and pursuing the accounting profession. The five-day residency program is offered at no charge to the students. The stringent application screening process includes meeting academic standards, submission of an essay and recommendations from teachers and/or counselors. Students also have the opportunity to earn scholarships towards their college education. Other program aspects include a case competition, corporate tours, career development, financial planning, networking, and interpersonal skills development.
ACAP's Goals
- To increase the number of high school students from that attend college and major in accounting and other business related fields
- To provide educational enrichment experiences
- To encourage and promote continued involvement through ongoing activities and interactions with student and professional NABA chapters
ACAP Participant Criteria and Application
The student selection process is competitive. The participant criteria for the ACAP summer residency program are as follows:
- Each student selected should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (Average GPA of students has been a 3.7).
- The selection process includes the completion of an application and essay, receipt of two teacher/counselor recommendations and an interview.
- Participants must be at the time of application a sophomore, junior or senior in High School.
