MACC Prerequisites

Candidates entering the Master of Accountancy (MACC) degree program should possess coursework that comprises a common body of knowledge in accounting. Students with an undergraduate accounting degree will have likely fulfilled the prerequisites. All prerequisites must be completed prior to entering the MACC program. In general, work experience cannot be used as a substitute for most prerequisites.

The prerequisites for the MACC (indicated by ASU course number and title) are listed below along with additional information.

Preference is given to candidates who have an undergraduate accounting degree.

ACC 231 – Uses of Accounting Information I (Financial Accounting)
ACC 241 – Uses of Accounting Information II (Managerial Accounting)
ACC 340 – External Reporting I/Intermediate Financial Accounting
ACC 430 – Tax and Business Decisions
ACC 440 – External Reporting II/Intermediate Financial Accounting
ACC 450 – Principles of Auditing

FAQ's

Do I have to complete the prerequisite courses before starting the MACC program?
Yes, all courses must be completed prior to beginning the MACC program. You will be required to submit grades for all prerequisite courses before classes begin in August.

What are the requirements for prerequisites?
Prerequisites can be completed at any accredited institution. Courses must be taken for a grade (no audit or pass/fail) and completed with a grade of "C" or higher.

In addition to the prerequisites, is there other course work I should take to prepare for the program?
No other courses are required.
